Saeed Ahmadian

Saeed is a member of Water and Geotechnical Research Association (WAGRA). He has been active in Civil Engineering and Water Resources for 10 years. He achieved his bachelor degree in civil engineering from Herat University and completed his Master of Science in Hydraulic Structures at the Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, Iran. He has worked with national and international companies in civil engineering related fields, Water Resources Specialist at the Ministry of Energy and Water, was a University Lecturer and currently is Infrastructure Specialist at the European Union Funded Project in Herat.

Saeed has participated in many national and international conferences, including the national conference on water resources in 2016 at Kabul, Afghanistan, the first Afghan conference on Electrical Engineering in 2017 at Kabul, Afghanistan and the Water Resources Management in Context of Climate Change conference organized by Kazakh-German University in 2017 at Almaty, Kazakhstan. His experience includes analysis and design on a variety of water resources projects including Dam Hydraulics, urban drainage, storm water management, flood control, watershed management, CFD modeling and river engineering.

He has done research in the field of water resources engineering and published articles in national and international journals. His research includes, Hydraulics of Flow in Porous Media, Dam Hydraulics, 2D flood modeling, Urban Drainage Network Analysis, and River Basin Management.

Zolfaqar Akbarian

Zolfaqar graduated of the Herat University in civil engineering (2011) and completed a Master’s program in Geotechnical Engineering in 2018. He has been active in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering for 10 years. His experience includes Project Management, Construction Quality Management, Analysis, and Design on a variety of Geotechnical Projects including of Evaluation of Embankment Dams Behavior by Numerical Analysis, Evaluation of Hydraulic Fracturing in Earth/Rock fill Dams built in Narrow Valleys, and Slope Stability Analysis of Rock Masses.

Zolfaqar is working with Afghanistan National Water Affairs Regulation Authority as Quality Assurance in Pashdan Irrigation & Hydropower Project, Afghanistan. Zolfaqar’s professional experiences includes working with the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing of Afghanistan as Quality Assurance Specialis, also working with several companies/incorporated in different professional positions. As his contribution to academia, he gained a great deal of experience by working as a Lecturer at Ghalib University, Afghanistan.

As a notable Project; Stress-Strain, Seepage and Stability Analysis of Dahan e Dara Earth/Rock fill Dam of Afghanistan, as well as Evaluation of Hydraulic Fracturing in upstream face of core of the aforementioned Dam.

Fahima Sadeqinezhad

Fahima is working as volunteer instructor in civil engineering department in Herat University and also she is working as an executive director and researcher in Green Social Research Organization (GSRO).

She received her MSc degree in Water Engineering and Management field from Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand in 2014. She is one of the awardee of Partnerships for Enhanced Engagement in Research (PEER) Program. She was one of only 45 selected from among the 166 eligible for full proposals submitted and accepted/received for this round.  She has several papers and books on benefit-sharing framework and conflict management in Trans-boundary river basins and climate change which are published in international and local journals.

Aside from her academic work, she has experience in working with NGOs and government organizations as hydrologist researcher and recently she is working with DT Global as water supply coordinator. She is a member of steering committee for Central Asia& Afghanistan Women& Water Association CAAWWA since 2017.

Fooman Forough

Fooman is a member of Water and Geotechnical Research Association (WAGRA). She has been active in Civil Engineering and Water Resources for 10 years. She worked as Hydraulics Structure design Specialist and Dam Adviser at the Ministry of Energy and Water for 4 years, also she worked as acting director of water allocation at national water affairs regulation authority. Now, she was working as director general of Kabul River Basin.  She is a University Lecturer at Kateb University, Afghanistan.

Fooman achieved Her B.Sc. in civil engineering from Herat University and completed Her M.Sc. in Hydraulic Structures at the Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, Iran.

Fooman has participated in many national and international conferences, including the 4th, 5th and 6th national conference on water resources at Kabul, Afghanistan, the first Afghan conference on Electrical Engineering in 2017 at Kabul, Afghanistan and the Water and Health Conference in 2019 at Antalya, Turkey. She has been honored several times by Dr. Abdullah Abdullah Chief Executive, the Ministry of Energy and Water, and the High Council for Land, Water and Environment for her valuable works in the field of water.

Abdul Naser Majidi

Abdul Naser is working with the the World Bank’s Water Global Practice, based in Kabul and mainly focussing on Water Supply and Sanitation and Water Resources Management projects in Afghanistan. Naser’s professional experience includes working with the Afghanistan Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Corporation as Technical Advisor, as well as serving the Ministry of Energy and Water. As his contribution to academia, he gained a great deal of experience by working as a Research Associate at the Asian Institute of Technology and as a Volunteer Lecturer and Curriculum Developer at Herat University. Naser holds a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering and he has achieved his Master’s Degree in Urban Water Engineering and Management from IHE-Delft The Netherlands. He has also taken a postgraduate class at the United Nations University, Tokyo, and conducted research on Green Infrastructures (Nature-Based Solutions).

Maryam Yusufi

Maryam Yusufi is a water resources engineer with more than two years of experience working at the ministry of energy and water of Afghanistan. She has a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Herat University and completed her master’s degree in Water Engineering and Management from Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Thailand. Maryam also has a diploma in Leadership Development from Institute for Leadership Development in Kabul, and is currently studying master of management at Kazakh American Free University (KAFU) in Kazakhstan.  She has participated and presented in several international conferences/workshops outside Afghanistan. Maryam is skilled in hydrologic modeling, climate projections, groundwater investigations, and watershed management. She has done research on impact of climate change on groundwater recharge in Herat city and is currently working on a research project on improving water management in Afghanistan.

Syed Mohammad Omar Eshaq

He is working with the National Water Affairs Regulation Authority of Afghanistan as Director General of Harirod-Murghab River Basin which is one of the five river basins of Afghanistan. Previous to his current position, for nearly two years he was the team leader of dam safety unit of the World Bank funded Irrigation and Restoration Development Program (IRDP) at the Ministry of Energy and Water of Afghanistan. Furthermore, he served as hydrologist at the technical board of the Ministry of Energy and Water. For three years of his professional career, he worked at the India funded project of Salma Dam with WAPCOS Company as a civil engineer. Eshaq has gained his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Herat University in 2011 and obtained his master’s degree in water engineering and management from Asian Institute of Technology of Thailand in 2017. Moreover, he has a degree in leadership from Institution for Leadership Development (ILD) of Morning Star Development. In addition to his professional career, he had been teaching various engineering courses in many universities across Afghanistan. His research interests are IWRM, dam safety, hydrology as well as organizational leadership.

Ehsan Ebrahimi

Ehsan is working with Eshraq and Khoja Abdulla Ansari university as instructor. Ehsan Ebrahimi was born and studied primary education in Mashhad, Iran. Ehsan got his bachelor of science from Civil Engineering in Herat university, Afghanistan in 2013. Then Ehsan got his master degree from Geotechnical Engineering from Mashhad, Ferdowsi university in 2019. Specialist at analysis and design of rock fill dams and ability to perform most of soil tests. Ehsan’s hardworking and perseverance made him very active in all aspects of duties and responsibilities that he had. He had good achievements in many different positions such as working as instructor and deputy of private educational institutions for many years.
